I first heard about the World Race back in May 2010. I clicked on a random facebook ad, advertising a mission trip to Uganda, thinking it was fake or whatever. It led me to the Adventures in Missions website. So I started messing around and checking stuff out, but didn't really put too much thought into it. A few days later, I started reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I read the book in 3 days and it changed my life. It also mentioned Uganda twice!! And Uganda kept popping up in the news that week. It was crazy. So I started applying for this 3 month mission trip to Uganda that would have left in Jan 2011. But when I told my parents about it, it was a flat "No." So that was a little disheartening. I had also been kind of looking at the World Race, but wasn't planning on graduating until at least December 2011, so I wasn't planning on going on the race until Jan 2012. I was reminded of a girl I used to know, Bethany Brueggen, (her dad was our church pastor 15 years ago), who had just gotten back from the Race. So I kinda facebook-stalked her and we were supposed to have a phone date to talk about it. But we both got busy and lost touch. So when school came around, I ended up switching my major around a little bit to where I graduated in May 2011. I sent in my application and was interviewed in the next couple days. Then I had to wait 2 weeks for an answer. In those 2 weeks, about 4 other options opened up for me. It made me doubt a little. But when I was accepted, I had to choose to commit. I took a step out in faith, and slowly, all the other doors began to close. Then, over Christmas break, I went to DCC (Denver Christmas Conference, a Campus Crusade retreat-thing), and there, working at the WR table, was BETHANY!! It was a total God-thing. I mean, what were the odds of her being there!? It was so good to talk with her and catch up and be encouraged. I have no doubt in my mind that this is what I am supposed to do.
