I wanted to fill you in on our ministry here. We’re working with Kids International Ministries in Mindinao, and there’s an orphanage, a church, and will be a fully functional soccer field soon, Lord willing. The kids who live at the orphanage are really pretty amazing. I love them so much. They love hugs and kisses – they really are just looking for attention and love.
Between the 30-some of us Racers here, this is what we’re up to ministry-wise:
- covering over a hundred “shifts” at the orphanage (some start as early as 5:30 and there’s a night shift with the infants too)
- retrieving “sod” from a “field” about a half hour drive away (this involves shovels, lots of hands, assembly lines, and a trailer.)
- Planting sod in the soccer field (this includes weeding, digging little holes, fertilizing then putting the sod in the hole and covering it with dirt)
- building a church (which involves a lot of concrete and mortar mixing, lots and LOTs of shovels, cement blocks, measuring things, digging trenches, and sifting dirt.)
- an optional prison ministry, as well as a college group and a gang small group.
I can’t think of anything else right now…but it’s been a pretty manual-labor-intensive month so far. This is where we’re staying:
