There is a story that I forgot about but was on my mind a lot today. It was the day we were going to cross the border into Uganda. I only had a little personal money left since we were leaving Kenya and I wanted to use it before I left. So, I decided I would spend the little bit I had left on a soda but not just any soda. I was interested in trying a Novida Pineapple which a lot of people had been talking about. So, I went with three other ladies on my squad to go track down this soda during our free time. We went to three stores and were not able to find the soda I was looking for. As we were entering the fourth store I looked to the left and saw about five kids just laying on the steps of an abandoned store looking…well…dead. They just looked so lifeless and it really bothered me. When my search for the soda came up fruitless, I felt kind of annoyed but the children and their lifeless bodies were still on my mind. I talked to the other girls about the possibility about getting them a little something to brighten their day. I knew I didn’t have a lot of money but I was willing to spend it on something. Its funny how God works because he had placed the same desire on their hearts as well. We put what money we had left together and we were able to purchase a loaf of bread and a container of peanut butter. We were able to give all the children who were there two pieces of bread each with peanut butter. It was a really amazing time that we spent with the children. It was so precious because right before we left a little boy who we fed came up and washed our hands with a dirty rag after we finished serving them. It was a really humbling thirty minutes that I will never forget and definitely worth more than a soda could ever get me.
