In my previous blog, I have shared the route change that my squad has been presented with. When we were given this news, many people on my squad were upset with the change of countries- many people chose this route because they felt called to China or Mongolia. The atmosphere around the compound has been a bit heavy lately.

In light of this, my team and I have still been able to enjoy our time in Madagascar and find fun in the little moments. Here are a few pictures to show what we have been up to this past week:

This past weekend a few of us decided to go to the zoo. Our translators talked to the zoo keepers and made it possible for us to go into the lemur cage and hold some of the lemurs. I got to interact with a family of lemurs- a mom, dad, and their two kids. This is a picture of me talking to the mom while the dad is eating honey out of my hand.

It’s astounding to see the number of people on my squad who have black and white stripped shirts. My teammate and good friend, Katie, and I wore our stripped shirts on the same day, so of course we had to take a picture.

While my team and I were waiting for lunch at our ministry site, we took the opportunity to pose in front of a classroom.

One of our tasks this week was to paint the wall in the school courtyard. I was in charge of drawing Dora and a few of the flowers. I decided to pose like her when she was finished being painted to celebrate our accomplishments of the day.

Here’s the wall in it’s entirety.

Here are two of our translators who we’ve gotten to know really well. They are AMAZING! They are so patient with us and not only translate our words, they also teach us more about their culture and customs so that we can better build relationships with the Malagasi people. If you can’t tell by the picture, these two ladies are a whole lot of fun and they have made our time in Madagascar extremely enjoyable.
