Though I have already taken several trips to Europe, being in Romania has melted my heart all over again for this continent. The historical background, ancient ruins, and sophisticated culture of people draws a refreshing element of dignity in this region. I have enjoyed exploring nearby cities such as Arad and Radna, gazing at the beauty of castle ruins, cathedrals, monasteries, and opera houses. It’s intrigued me how delicately and richly people have adorned the sanctuary of God, based on the detailed architecture and interior design of churches in Europe… yet I wonder how many people who enter these beautiful buildings hear and respond to the whisper of the living God.

My return to Europe has reminded of God’s burning desire to awaken Europe from its dead, religious state to a passionate pursuit of Christ. One that is constantly stirring, always inviting, and highly contagious. Though I have been living on the countryside of Romania in a small town called Sistarova, where our interactions with the locals are somewhat limited due to the language barrier and cultural differences, God has reminded me to take action in prayer. Isaiah 60:1-3 says,

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”

I love that God has given us, His children, the ability to pray and operate by the fullness of His power and glory. Do I even know what that means? I often feel at times that I’m re-learning the capability of understanding this concept. In John 14:12-14, Jesus tells us that we are called to do greater things than Him in order to bring glory to God. He’s removed the boundaries of our limited, earthly mindsets, and has opened up endless possibilities for Him to move. All we have to do is ask! The door is wide open, but how many times do I not walk through? Why do my doubts, fears, or limited faith freeze me from taking action? Why do I find myself getting distracted by things, forgetting that door is even open?

I know that God is sovereign and He is the Master Painter of our lives. His painting of my life on earth has already been perfected to completion, my questions and prayers are already known to Him. He knows beginning to end, each chapter of our lives in the most detailed description. But He has also called us to be seated in the heavenly realms with Him, as His children and co-heirs with Christ. We as Christians are called to abide in His glory, to understand His power, and to daily walk in His authority.

As my month in Romania progresses, I pray that God continues to broaden my faith and understanding of what it looks like to walk by His authority. That I would see the effect of my prayers as I speak life over this town, this village. That the enemy’s strongholds over this region would be broken and His glory would restore and grip hearts. That God would prepare the hearts of kids attending camp this summer to be blown away by His presence. I pray these requests fully understanding the power of my God, and I am excited to see His effect as we continue to serve in this place!
