It’s hard to believe that it’s only been about a week since I left South Florida to begin this crazy journey called the World Race. In this short amount of time, so much has happened. It’s hard to capture it all, but here are some of the highlights.
We received more details about our country assignments, spoke life into one another and were filled with the Spirit as we got ready to head to the nations.
I spent awesome quality time with my team.
We have pretty much been laughing constantly since we reunited. We’ve all become way more comfortable with each other since training camp. I can tell we are going to have an incredible few months (or more) together full of joy, laughter, and genuine community.
The men of our squad washed the women’s feet on our last night of launch.
We knew our men were awesome, but there was something so incredible about them humbling themselves to wash our feet and commit to serving us wholeheartedly. I am so blessed to do life with these incredible brothers for the next year.
I’ve been on four flights since September 5.
Ft. Lauderdale to Chicago
Chicago to New York City
New York City to Atlanta
Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa (16 hours…one of the longest non-stop flights in the world)
I saw the Chicago Bean and ate an Italian Beef sandwich in Chicago!
Those were my goals. Mission accomplished.
I stayed up all night exploring the streets of New York City!
We took the Subway to Time Square, prayed at the 9/11 Memorial site, and hiked across the Brooklyn Bridge just in time to watch the sun rise over the city.
I had a wonderful day of rest with my entire squad in South Africa before we split up to head to our various ministry sites.
We slept. We ate. We spent time with Jesus. We laughed. We packed and repacked. We talked. We jammed. We danced. We worshipped. And we rested before heading into our next leg of the journey.
ONE OF MY TEAM MATES GOT MIRACULOUSLY HEALED.
Remember when I said we worshipped in South Africa? Well, during worship one of my team mates heard the Lord instruct her to lay hands on her own back, where she has had a pinched sciatic nerve that has left her in pain for about two years. She stepped out in faith and boom, the nerve is not pinched anymore. In fact, she feels great and is full of so much joy. This may not make sense, and it may defy a lot of your theology on healing. It’s not like this is the first time she’s prayed for healing. I don’t know why God waited to heal her until we got to Africa. But the fact is that the Holy Spirit and His power are in my sweet sister, and God doesn’t need any of us to heal her. He just does his thing, and we are so thankful!
My team and one other team took a 23-hour bus ride from South Africa to Zimbabwe, including a 5-hour stop at the Zimbabwe/South Africa border in the middle of the night.
On the bus. Off the bus. Ticket check. LOUD BLARING UNCENSORED AFRICAN HIP HOP MUSIC BEGINS. Pulled over by African cops. Rest stop. Pulled over by African cops again. Customs. Luggage check. Visa check. Rest stop. Passport check. Off the bus. Bathroom break in the bush. On the bus. Pulled over by African cops. Rest stop. Pulled over by African cops. Reach destination. LOUD BLARING UNCENSORED AFRICAN HIP HOP MUSIC STOPS. With a little bit of sleep in between.
One thing is for sure, travel days will produce patience like nothing else can.
Finally made it to our contact’s home in Mutare, Zimbabwe!
Our hosts are a former World Racer and her husband. They are working with their local church to set up ministry opportunities for us in this community. We are excited and ready to begin ministry tomorrow!
