I am SO SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE!

I am tired of them staring as if I have 3 heads.

I’m tired of the pointing and giggling as I walk by.

I’m tired of being followed around your store as if I will steal something.

I’m tired of ordering first and being served last especially when you turn to coworker and say “oh she can wait” as you rush around filling the plates of my white teammates while helplessly stand there and watch.

I’m currently sitting in a cafe in Malaysia where a couple that recently got married is here taking their wedding pictures. As I sit here they have gotten closer and closer to me. WAIT! The woman just pulled up a chair at my table as the photographer is clicking away!

…I’m sure the offense is showing on my face because they just apologized, BUT now they have just put a chair in front of me and are using me as a background.

…Sigh…

I refuse to get up, but can anyone honestly tell me what to do with my emotions because all I can think to do is sit here quietly and try to ignore what is going so that I don’t flip a gasket and disgrace my Lord and Savior.

…Sigh…

I’m not going to lie, I wish that my squad mates paid enough attention to stand up for me. It’s one of those things where standing up for yourself causes an even bigger scene because if they were convicted by me they would not have done the act in the first place. So me saying something just gives them the room and reason to justify why have treated me this way in the first place. It’s completely different when someone who is not affected decides to call out the injustice and hold the person accountable to recognize and correct their transgression because everyone acts better when someone is watching.

It completely sucks that it is that way!

It completely sucks to be in the position when you really can’t defend yourself.

But it is a complete blessing to have someone who is not affected find the time and wherewithal to pay attention even though they can truly proceed without caring, but decides to go against the status quo and care!

That is a blessing!

Please think of that the next time you see someone being on the receiving end of racism, bigotry, and prejudice or the next time you randomly take a picture of someone you don’t know or haven’t asked for permission to do so.
