Last week for Adventure Day, our ministry host and his wife took us out to the country side to see the other side of their ministry.
We went to Grandpa’s house!
There are 2 great parts of this trip that we got to experience….
It was about a 45 minute ride out to the countryside and as we bumped along in the back of Lukas’ pick up truck we got see the family homes of a lot of the student who come into the city to live at Lighthouse. As I stated before, the students at Lighthouse come this ministry so that they have lodging in the city, which allows them to go to school.
We also got to see the farm where animals and food are raised as another form of income to support the Lighthouse Battambang ministry.
As I made this video, I realized that video and pictures just don’t do justice to how amazing this experience was… It was beautiful!
– The cows in the street seemed random to us, but normal to everyone else.
– A canoe ride to get from one relative’s house to another is common place.
– We thought that Battambang was quiet compared to Phnom Penh, but the countryside and water under the canoe was even more quiet and peaceful.
– Falling in the marsh wasn’t that bad… LOL…
As we tour grandpa’s house I hope you see that humans don’t need a lot to be happy. We need shelter, food, and relationships with God and community. That is the basics of how God created us. Grandpa lives this simply and he is happy.
I shared the post about the racism I experienced, but this day I had Grandpa flirting with me! He was a lot of fun!!! I say that to remind us, do not write off a race because of racism. Not everyone feels that way!
As we took that last picture, Grandpa says “don’t stand too close or they will think we are married!” 🙂 Like I said, Grandpa is a lot of fun!
Enjoy the video! (Shout out to Andy for video taping as I fell in the mud!)
P.S. I learned a great lesson about video taping… use landscape! I will be better about that in the future. 🙂
