As I sat in a classroom watching the students practice there tribal dances for a competition, I got to have a conversation with one of the students. As I have stated before, it took the students some time to open up, but when they did, they wanted answers to the good ‘ole hard questions.

  • America allows all religions so how do you know which one is the truth?
  • What if you really just have that [sexual] urge that causes you to be in pain if you don’t take care it?!?
  • But if you don’t try her out before marriage, how do you know if you are compatible or whether she is hiding a huge nasty lesion on the inside of her leg under her skirt?!?
  • What makes a person a Christian?
  • What are the differences between the denominations?
  • Does the Devil create demons and bad people?
  • What do you love about America?

These are real questions we were asked to answer.  When I said hard questions, I meant hard questions! Thank you Holy Spirit for being with us and providing answers for these questions! These are questions that we hadn’t thought about or had answers to. We never expected questions like these from primary and secondary students living in the bush of Chongwe, Zambia.

“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.”
??Matthew? ?5:13? ?MSG??

These are some hard questions, but if we choose to ignore them, to not answer or participate in the discussion we are being the Salt and Light of the world as God has called us to be. Here are the answers the Holy Spirit provided through us.

America allows all religions, so how do you know which one is the truth?

America is built on the freedom to choose which god you believe in. It does not chose for you or force you to believe a certain way to live within its borders. So that answer is a personal answer that each person has to make for themselves. So for me, I have not dabbled in trying different religions, but I grew up a Christian and I spent some time being a prodigal daughter. I went out and tried the world as I saw fit and found that God never left me and life was so much better with Him. No other religion speaks of a savior that is living and walking with them and wants a relationship with the believer. I gave God my life and walking with Him has changed everything. No other religion can promise their god will walk with them everyday, but Christ does walk with us and I have experienced it. I wouldn’t choose life any other way.

What if you really just have that [sexual] urge that causes you to be in pain if you don’t take care it?!?

Paul speaks in the Bible that if your urge is so strong that you can’t control yourself, you need to find someone to marry and then marry them because all sex outside of marriage is a sin.

But if you don’t try her out before marriage, how do you know if you are compatible or whether she is hiding a huge nasty lesion on the inside of her leg under her skirt?!?

You are speaking from a spirit of lust. You are missing that point that love, relationships, and commitment are what is important, not sex! Sex is simply a gift, an icing on the cake after learning to truly love as Christ loves, after having healthy a relationship, and committing your life first to God and then to the person that you will walk this Christian journey with for the rest of your life.

What makes a person a Christian?

Christ modeled a life in relationship with God. To be a Christian is a be Christ like and therefore means to live the life He modeled for us. It’s so much more than just going to church, ritual, and religion.

What are the differences between the denominations?

Each denomination has different ideas and doctrines about the Bible, but we on the World Race come together to teach the Bible, exactly as it is, and share the love of Christ with all that we meet regardless of the denomination or specific church that we come from.

Does the Devil create demons and bad people?

The devil does not have the power create, only God does. So how are demons and bad people created? The devil himself was created as an angel of God, but he made a choice. We all have a choice. It’s called free will. (C.S. Lewis quotes “evil comes from abuse of free will”.) God gave us the ability to choose to walk with Him or to go against Him. The devil, because of his pride, choose to go against God. Hence he and the other angels, who made the same choice, were cast out of heaven. When they were cast out the devil and his fellow fallen angels were renamed the devil and demons. But remember, God created them all. They became the devil and demons as a punishment for their choice to go against God.

Again, thank you Holy Spirit for your words and direction to share with these students. You are the Salt and Light; Thank you for using me to be the salt shaker and the lamp.
