What is the definition of freedom? I found an amazing definition that reads…

The Word of God teaches that the Christian is a free man and should “stand in the freedom which Christ has made him free.” What is meant by Christian freedom? What is freedom in general? We answer: it is not the right and the ability to do as one pleases, but the ability to move without constraint in the sphere for which God made us. Freedom therefore is not inconsistent with limitation and law. [It is not about selfishly doing every and anything we may want to do]… Man was made in the image of God to be like Him and to reflect his holiness. Consequently he [she] is free only when he [she] moves without constraint in the sphere of holiness and obedience to God’s law.

–“Christian Liberty,” in “Report of the Committee on Worldly Amusements,” Agenda: Synod of the Christian Reformed Church, To convene June 13, 1928 at Holland, Mich., p. 22.

The biblical text cited above is Galatians 5:1.

Freedom in Christ is so important. It changes the way we think, feel, and act out our lives. God has told us the secret to how we should live our lives. He has given us a blueprint to set us up for success.

At the age of 28, I realized that I spent all my life up until that time thinking, feeling, and acting as if I knew a BETTER WAY of life than God. But finally the light bulb came on and I realized that if I was so smart, why wasn’t I where I thought I should have been at that point in my life? Why did I have this restlessness in and about my life? Why did I feel like I was treading water?

The definition of insanity is to keep doing what you have always done and expecting different results.

So I finally decided to let go of what I thought was best for me and indisputably followed what God has laid out as the principles to living a Godly life. I am a witness to the definition above “[I am] free only when [I] move without constraint in the sphere of holiness and obedience to God’s law.”

Soon after I made that commitment to Him, my church started a series about the UnModern Family. The whole premise is teach the biblical principles of family starting during our season as a single through marriage and then having and launching our children into their God given calling. There are 5 main aspects in which God wants us to experience freedom through Him. I have already began to share about the first; Financial Freedom.

I cannot stress enough that it is not God’s plan for us to be in debt. The love of money is not ordained to be our idol. And God, in His wisdom, knew that we would struggle. Let me put it this way, “the Bible offers 500 verses on prayer, fewer that 500 verses on faith, but more than 2,350 verses on money and possessions!” -Your Money Counts by Howard Dayton. It’s obvious that God went out of His way to steer us in the right direction, to set us up for success, and to teach us how to stay in communion with Him. But over the years, we, actually I, have become so wrapped up in things, stuff, possessions that I missed this in His word… Until this series.

I have shared with you the financial journey that God has set me upon. And as I have walked along this road I have begun to experience a freedom that many in our culture can’t even imagine. It all starts “when [I] move without constraint in the sphere of holiness and obedience to God’s Law”.

Financial freedom is only the beginning!

God offers us the ability to be Spiritually Free, Emotionally Free, Relationally Free & Physically Free in Him.

During my time in training camp I experienced some development towards Spiritual Freedom.  As I take this journey within a mission, God continues to teach me how to get more and more free and I will share those stories with you.

Are you ready to be blessed? Are you ready to change? Yes, God loves us and allows you to come exactly as you are, but no where does it say that we can stay as we are. It’s time to be healed and developed in Him.
