Back when we were in Zambia, we had an unusual set up with our ministry. The organization, as well as our ministry host, was based in the United States and we had on site contacts to organize and host our time with each part of the ministry. By happenstance, our US hosts were actually on site in Zambia during our month. They had flown in to serve, see and film their locations in order to create fundraising videos. So as we transitioned we got to spend the evening with them, to get to know them and to hear their hearts about the ministry.
As the night progressed an interesting question arose “Did you come all this way to go back to America and simply be a typical American?”
That has never been my intention. As I stepped out of the my last chapter and into this one, one of my biggest prayers was asking God “What do YOU want me to do with my life?” So many of us chose what we want to do in life asking God to bless our choice as if He is our errand boy, but we should be asking for and following His direction knowing that it is already a blessed path because He created it.
So, the answer was and is “no. I have no intention on going back to ‘being a typical American’.” Even if God leads me back to a life of corporate work I will never be the same. I will bring the values, disciplines, and frankly a deepened relationship with Papa with me anywhere I go.
But the truth is… You don’t have to go all the way around the world to live a life of purpose as directed by God. You simply have to ask Him His will and submit to it. Don’t get me wrong, the adventure is a cool way to figure all this out, but if that’s not your thing that doesn’t mean you can’t have the same revelation we’ve experienced. On the contrary, God is so big that He can give you the journey of lifetime anywhere.
The question is “are you willing to surrender your life to Him regardless of where you are?”
