Picture someone running after you. Not just kinda chasing, but full out sprinting. We’re talking sweat pouring from their body, gasping for air, lungs burning, muscles on fire in relentless pursuit. Can you see them? It hurts. They are in pain, but they won’t stop. Their chest is about to explode and every extremity going to fall of, but they MUST catch you. It’s a matter of life or death for them- and you although you might not know it quite yet. That person chasing you is Jesus. His love. It will NEVER give up. No matter much we turn away, how much try to get away, if we try to hide- God’s love is there always. Just waiting to be invited in…

That’s what I’ve felt these first few days on the race.  A beautiful, all encompassing, warm, bright beam of love’s light pouring itself over me- mind, body, soul and spirit. It’s incredibly dope!

Okay so to catch you up: We arrived in Santo Domingo on Friday 7th afternoon and went to our launch location. Launch is 3 days of preparation for the field. We praise, we worship, we learn, we laugh, we grow…and then we’re sent out. My team is in the mountains. A gorgeous place called Arroyo Cano. Seriously, there’s no such thing as a bad view here. We’re sleeping in the sanctuary of the church where we also serve.

So far it’s been a lot of playing with kids and getting to know the adults. Today (Wednesday 12th) we got to help Compassion International with their annual toy giveaway which was cool. We then hiked to the top of one of the mountains and were blessed with the most amazing view. Seriously y’ll, the things God has created on this earth- WOW!

Everyone is so friendly and has embraced us with open arms. I had a crazy fever on Tuesday and was VERY out of it and all the kids kept coming over asking if I was okay, if they could go to the pharmacy for me, if I needed a doctor, etc. SO sweet! Of course this was completely in Spanish- my comfort with the language has grown so quickly and SO many of my teammates are pulling out their middle school Spanish lessons. We’re going GREAT on the language front! The women totally took care of me, gave me medicine and prayed for me. I woke up this morning feeling great. Just regular cold symptoms (cough, runny nose…nothing major)  Thank God for healing!

So we’ll be here until Feb 2ndso says our current plans, but remember things are ALWAYS subject to change. Hopefully I’ll get this posted up before too much time goes by. I’m going to try to always note the date when I say things like “today” or “yesterday” so y’ll kind of have a timeline to work with :o) Date/time/etc is not really that important in my life anymore and it’s a beautiful thing!

Okay…hasta luego.
