They asked us to give some advice to future racers. My best advice is to come with your mind, heart and spirit WIDE OPEN and to allow yourself to truly listen, learn and grow. Camp is the start of your adventure- embrace it!
Training camp has been non-stop, incredibly amazing, exhausting, nothing at all what I thought it would be and completely worth it! Praise and worship has been so real and on a whole new level. For the first time in years I sang out full voice- sometimes by myself/above the chorus- without ANY care what I sounded like or searching for the the correct harmony or fear of being off key. It was so liberating- I never even realized how caught up I had previously been about "sounding right."
Speaking of liberation- that's what we found in the woods. V-Squad (the crazy, sold out, honest, no holds barred, unapologetically Jesus loving, wild, rowdy, passionate bunch of people I'll call family for the next 11 months) freed ourselves of all those heavy burdens we've been carrying around. There is power in confession and on the night of 10.19.10, in the midst of the woods, on the bank of a lake, we took our power back! We broke the silence of our secrets and reclaimed our voices. We shouted declarations and breathed in the peace of God. On this night, the Holy Spirit made His dwelling place our campsite and Jesus stood around the campfire beckoning each of us to come, lay it all down, and be free. That's why He died and He challenged us to honor that- we did.
October 19, 2010 is a night we will never forget. It's the night we became one. It's a night we bonded over our pasts and made a promise to be a part of each other's futures. It's the night we put our messy stinky ugly crap behind us and decided we're all-in, going for it and shall indeed change the world together.
