The World Race: Less than Ideal
My name is Rocky, I am on an 11 month missions trip to 11 different countries. I am currently in Valle de Los Angeles, Honduras. The area is so beautiful, we are staying in the mountains with the cutest little town that we are able to walk to.
Honduras is so full of culture, the town we are staying in has had a festival. We are enjoying the street food, the music, dances and the all around celebration.
On Saturday’s and Sunday’s we are given rest days. Most of our rest days consist of some small adventure and finding the nearest coffee shop with the best WiFi.
Blogging is something that we required to do on a weekly bases. I am shamefully not the best at blogging.
I have been sitting here in the coffee shop for almost an hour staring at the blank page on my screen with no idea what to write about. So if you have any requests of what you would like me to write about, please share it would be so helpful!
I am adjusting to living outside of the United States. It has been an adjustment for sure. The adjustment process is a huge part of the journey but so much fun. Every time I travel to a new place I am not sure what is to come. Some of the adventure has looked like a 15 hour bus ride turning into a 30 hr bus ride with no bathrooms. It has also looked like staying in hostels with rats, roaches and no clean water. I also always have to be prepared that the bathrooms will probably never have tissue, this is a huge problem when you are traveling with 40 people and half of them are sick, lol. I could go on with so many stories of how adventurous all of this has been but it literally would not be the adventure without all of it. In every single situation I have to choose to laugh, to get creative and enjoy every moment.
As a result, I have had some of a the best adventures of my life by simply choosing to find the best in every situation. Sometimes the best looks like setting up my tent on the dock and waking up to the most breathtaking view of the bluest and clearest ocean water I have ever seen.
In every moment, I have seen God in a new way. What I am learning is that I can choose joy, adventure and to laugh in situations that have been less than ideal.
This can be such a good lesson in life when we are facing less than ideal circumstances in our life. Have you ever been in the mist of a difficult situation and felt so defeated but also questioned why you are there and how you got there? Earlier I mentioned staying in a hostel with rats and roaches, instead of lying there and crying about it (trust me I wanted to) I choose to get up, set up my tent and experienced so much beauty by choosing to change the environment I was in.
Situations I have faced have been much tougher than a physical struggle and I am convinced that the things you are facing are or have been much bigger. The lesson that I am learning is that there is beauty that can be found in every season. Do not let your current circumstances allow you to miss out on the beauty around you. It is so easy to have tunnel vision on the problem in front of you but I challenge you to pick up your tent and to set it up somewhere else. I was not able to check out of the hostel and move to another one but I was able to choose somewhere else to sleep until it was time to travel elsewhere. You may not be able to change your current circumstance but you can choose not to stay there.
I pray that today wherever you are at that, you see the beauty that God has placed in front of you. I pray that you lean on Jesus and remember that he is good in every circumstance. The tough situation placed in front of you is not there to make you fall and never get up. It is there to season you, to stretch you and to grow you. Don’t miss out on the adventure that is in front of you because you are too distracted by the struggle in front of you.
Thank you so much for reading, if you made it all the way to the end. I had no idea where I was going with this blog when I first began to write it but God had his own plan.
Love always,
Rocky
