Hello everybody!!
It has been an amazing six days already so I wanted to give you all an update! My squad and I arrived in Gainesville, Georgia on the 23rd of January. The anxiety was real as my Aunt Lesli and cousin Brenna dropped me off to attend my four day training camp! I was blessed to have had a few days with them between leaving Arizona and getting to training camp… because like I said I was very nervous so it was a good way to ease into the start of my race!
Training camp was certainly an interesting experience but I loved every second of it! We weren’t allowed to shower until Sunday afternoon and had to use porta potties since there was 70ish people there from all different teams and the building we were staying at ran on a well… we were a little stinky but we survived!! We had a ton of sessions that taught us about how to be a good guest, sharing the Gospel, engaging in conversations and how to blog! In the matter of those four days I grew extremely close to my teammates and leaders!
Our flight for Colombia was leaving Monday January 27th at 7:35am so we slept in the airport to try to avoid any complications! However we still had problems, as we were going to check our bags we were not allowed to because we didn’t have set plans of leaving Colombia (we were planning to make arrangements closer to the time, which would be a bus to Ecuador). Thankfully after about over an hour our leaders pulled together a plan and we had 40 minutes to get to our gate, but we made it and even got Chick-Fil-A breakfast on the way… which made our morning 🙂 Our flight was for sure the scariest flight I have ever been on, however we safely made it and finally arrived at our ministry host building to get settled in. We were welcomed with big smiles and yummy food!
Today we were given a rest day from traveling so our friend from the ministry gave us a tour of the city! Despite the language barrier it is safe to say I am already in love with Colombia!
PRAYER REQUEST: If you could imagine the most thoughtful, loving and energetic girl who is crazy about Jesus and never fails to put a smile on your face that is exactly who my friend Ritz is. Ritz is $2,841 short on her fundraising. Thankfully World Race still allowed her to come and keep fundraising because our team wouldn’t be the same without her! Any amount helps, so if you would like to help her out her blog is ritzmejia.theworldrace.org. If you aren’t able to donate, we please please please ask for prayers!!!
Thank you to all my supporters, you guys are truly amazing and I wouldn’t be in this beautiful city if it weren’t for each and everyone of you guys!
Love,
Roo
