Guatemala…You are not Forsaken!
It has been two weeks since we arrived in Guatemala, this country has blown me away. People are amazing and the natural beauty is simply breathtaking. We are staying in Guatemala City at The Street Revolution base called The Necleuos. This month we are very spoiled we have a bed, hot shower and the food has been very good. The most difficult part of the trip so far is community living especially if you are used to being so independent . We do ALL things as a team so it definitely been a learning experience for me. Its teaching me what healthy living is all about, I have cooked breakfast/lunch/dinner (with help) for more than 8! , Those who know me know I'm not a cook everyone is still alive after my cooking ha! My team is awesome though which has made the adjustment period much more easier.
Im super grateful that we have a chance to be a part of the Street revolution. David his wife Julie and Diana have such a serving heart and their passion for the people of this city is palpable since the first day we arrived. This ministry is raw, they are working with the people in the streets everyday. We have been going to a parks, street corners. city dumps, poor communities and safe houses in Guatemala City to spend time with the homeless youth, drug addicts, children and women, We played Football (Soccer), bored games, sang songs, danced, acted out dramas for the people here in the city. The peoples reaction is priceless when they see us arrive. They receive us with big smiles, hugs and just happy to see people have come to visit them at their home (the street). They are looking for and ear to hear and people to be with them. The simple act of just showing up to be there with them opened the door for us to love them and give them hope of a better life.
We can easily ask why God has forsaken these people, where is he in all of this? With assurance I can say they are not alone, they are not forsaken! People are answering the call to serve, bring hope and freedom to those who desperately need it. Ministries such as The street revolution are day in and out loving and giving hope to these overlooked communities. Just being here two weeks we have met several people who are passionate for the people in the streets, so fearless and willing to do whatever God has called them to do. God is moving! He is bringing joy where there has been tears, food where there has been hunger, freedom where there has been bondage and love where there is no love. He is doing it through people who are willing to see their communities and people changed, normal people like you and me going out and making a difference.
