Last week I had the opportunity to be a camp counselor at a camp for kids who have been victims of abuse and neglect. The way this opportunity showed itself was totally unexpected. Ever since I returned from training camp I had this thought in my mind “why am I spending these next two months not doing much and just waiting to change the world when August gets here?” This thought was constantly on my mind, and even though I didn’t just want to sit back and take a break, I had no clue of what to do. One night when I was checking out Facebook I saw that Scoot “Pappy” Pitts had put on his status update that an organization which was run by some friends of his were in need of some male camp counselors. Pappy was on Facebook at that same time so I started chatting with him. I think I let the devil have his way because I just had a friendly chat and didn’t say anything about the camp. He got off for about thirty minutes, and when he came back I went ahead and asked him about the camp, and explained to him that I had no experience in this area at all. He didn’t really tell me much, except that I would be a perfect person to fill this position. He connected me with the right people, and less than a week later I was sitting in Union City, Georgia with a bunch of kids. This experience has taught me many things, one of which was that there is no reason I have to sit back and wait for this one moment to change the world for God. I have no doubt that the eighty something people from this younger generation are going to make the world shake with the glory of God. Look for a blog shortly following this one that will tell some of the things I experienced while at this camp.
