“John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, ‘There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.'” Mark 1:4-8
Today (Saturday) my team and I had the awesome opportunity to visit the Jordan River, the site where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Two of my teammates had chosen to baptized in the same location. I cannot begin to explain how awesome it was to be in the same place where “the heavens parted and the Spirit descending upon Jesus like a dove,” but to see two of my sisters in Christ being baptized with water to show as a testimony that they are now changed forever. We were also able to visit Capernaum, Galilee, Tiberius, and Nazareth. I thought for this blog I would just try to include some of the Scriptures where these are mentioned. I have limited time on the computer so I will try to post some of the pictures of these incredible places next month.
“It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, ‘You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'” Mark 1:9-11
“Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught.” “Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.” Mark 1:21, 29-31
“But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee. And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, ‘He shall be called a Nazarene.'” Matthew 2:22-23
“Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. But He said to them, ‘It is I; do not be afraid.’ Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.” John 6:16-21
“After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias.” John 6:1
