It’s been an interesting first week to say the least. We started off go, go, go all day long for the first couple of days. But then we switched the people we were primarily put in contact with. Since then it’s been slow going. We have had a lot of free time and I’m not sure that I like that. I guess I didn’t believe good old Bill Swan when he said this would be the most free time I will ever have.

I want to be out there doing something all the time. Not sitting around reading a book or taking a nap or even sight-seeing. I want to be with the people in this nation who need me. I want to see a tangible difference. That’s why I loved the first two days. We were doing construction work from sun up to sun down. I could see the difference I was making. It was right there in front of me.

Half of my team has been out there every day giving hope to those who didn’t have any. They come back to the church we are staying at and are exhausted. That’s what I want. To have poured myself into this community so much that I am exhausted by days end.

But I have to remember, God has a plan and that his timing is perfect. I cannot do anything on my own. I have to be patient. God has a purpose for the rest we have been receiving. He has a reason for making us wait. We need to be patient.

Psalms 37:7-9 “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.”
We are told to wait on God and that’s exactly what I will do. I will treat this as an opportunity. An opportunity to learn more about Him. To learn more about my team. To learn more about myself. TO LEARN GUITAR!

All that being said it’s not like we’ve done nothing. We helped prepare the church service yesterday. I was a backup singer during worship. I got up in front of the 75 person congregation and told my testimony. I hung out with the locals. I have been a part of a construction project. I have been to a Hindu temple and took part in what we like to call pre-evangelism.

And just as the frustration was really about to set in today we were able to set up a solid schedule for pretty much the rest of our time here with a lady named Mindy. God totally took care of that. It looks like we’ll be taking part in things that will be exciting and what looks like we’ll be able to make a difference. I’m really excited about the rest of this month, and the difference we are about to make in the lives of those in Malaysia.
