A lot of people ask me, “how on earth do you pack for an 11 month long trip to 11 very different countries?” Well, since so many people have asked, I’m going to tell you in this blog what I’m bringing. If this does not interest you, you can stop reading and go back to what your doing. HOWEVER, I would encourage you to watch the new video about the World Race. You should be able to click on it right here on my blog, it’s in blue and at the top. This video gives an awesome explanation and stunning visuals of what the next 11 month of my life will look like. But anyway, here’s what I’ve decided to bring. I’m sure there will be things I’ll be so glad I brought, and things that I’ll discover I won’t need at all. Every racer packs a little differently, but this is what I’ve officially decided on.
This is what I’ll be wearing the day I leave the country. Convertible pants that are water resistant and have UV protection, a t-shirt, running shoes, a fleece, and a rain coat. My first stop is Uyuni, Bolivia. It is currently winter in South America and Uyuni is at an altitude of about 10-11,000 ft. This means it’s in the 40’s there now and in the 20’s at night. (yes, that’s Fahrenheit)
I’ll be living out of this sucker for the next 11 months. When I packed this full of it’s contents, it weighed about 30lb.
Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent, mosquito net, compressible pillow (i’ll probably bring the pillow on the plane with me)
Clothes: 4 t-shirts, 1 nicer shirt, 1 tank, 1 longsleeve shirt, 2 shorts, 1 maxi skirt, jeans, sweatpants, nike dri-fit zip up, socks, underwear, swimsuit.
Toiletries in handy hanging bag, first aid, towel, sun and bug stuff.
shower shoes and chacos
Everything else: hat, laundry bag, bubbles (to connect with kids who speak a different language), frisbee, headlamp, airporter (big bag to put my pack in when i check it at the airport), photos of friends and family, passport copies, passport photos, duct tape, clothes line, alarm clock, dryer sheets and skunkies for the smell, bowl, mug, silverware, needle and thread, stationary and addresses.
Then there’s my daypack/carry on. This, when fully packed weighed about 20 lbs. This will have my mac, camera, mp3 player, outlet converter, books, Bible, journals, art and craft supplies, change of clothes, sleeping bag liner, flash drive, games, and a roll of toilet paper.
And then I will have my purse and all it’s contents.
Things I will not be bringing: Cell phone, hair dryer, hair straightener.
Things I wanted to bring but couldn’t fit: power strip, paint and brushes, extra conditioner, coloring book, notebook.
And that’s it!! I leave for Atlanta Sunday night and leave for Bolivia July 3!
I’m ready!!!
