This blog is about just one day of ministry. We have been doing a wide variety of things this month, but this day of ministry has stuck out to me, so I’m going to tell you all about it. My team, another team (Bold Radiance), and then half of another team (Open Arms) went to a place our ministry contact just referred to as the Valley. We went there for an event for kids through a church there. That morning before leaving for the Valley, we learned dances to kids’ songs on a CD. Some of the songs were just silly but most of them were about Jesus. After we learned the dances, our ministry contact asked who was giving the message. We all looked at each other confused because we didn’t realize we were giving a message and we were leaving for the Valley in just a couple hours. The team leaders asked if anyone would be willing to speak. I thought about it a little and realized I could very easily share the Gospel to kids using the colors from the wordless book. I raised my hand and agreed to give the message that night. I got a piece of yellow, black, red, white, and green construction paper from one of the classrooms (my squad is living at a school this month) to use for my message. After lunch, we piled into taxis and then piled into a bus (bus sort of thing?) Side note: when I say piled in, I literally mean piled. I have to sit in someone’s lap basically everywhere we go this month.

When we got there, our ministry contact was explaining to us that the kids there have a lot of problems. Most have bad home lives and there is a lot of abuse in the area. We all painted our faces and put our hair in pigtails for the kids. We did our dances, did a funny skit, I preached the Gospel, and we prayed for the kids. I had five of my squad members hold one of the colored pieces of paper as I explained their meaning. For those of you who are not familiar with the wordless book it goes something like this: Gold stands for Heaven. It’s a place with no sickness, sadness, or death. God created this place for us because He loves us and we get to be with Him there. But black stands for sin. We can’t go to Heaven if we have it and Romans 3:23 says that all of us do. Red stands for Jesus’ blood. God sent Jesus, who had no sin, to die in our place (John 3:16). White represents purity, which is how God sees us if we ask for forgiveness. If He sees us as pure, we can go to Heaven. Green stands for growth. We can know Jesus today and grow closer to Him during our life through prayer, scripture, and going to church. I told the kids that I chose to follow Jesus and it was the best decision I ever made. He is with me when I’m lonely, He comforts me when I’m scared, and He brings me joy when I’m sad. I then told the kids if they wanted to accept Christ to follow along in a prayer I gave. I don’t know if any kids prayed that prayer, but I know that God’s hand was over that situation. I did my part and I trust that God did His. After the kids’ event, we went door to door and handed out pamphlets. It was a fulfilling day of ministry, a lot of fun, and I’m excited to see what happens with the new ministry we have for the rest of the month!
