Growing up I was never sure what God was calling me to do or where to go with my life. When I was in seventh grade my family switched to a new church. It was scary but as time went on it became very rewarding in so many unseen ways.
We had only been there a couple months, if that, when I was faced with a decision as to whether or not I wanted to go on a youth mission trip. I was going to be all alone, I wasn’t going to know anybody, and I would need to fundraise. It was my yes to that mission trip that set the next six years into place.
The ten day mission trips I went on are what changed my mind towards going on a longer trip, over seas, in the future. I loved the growth in my faith with God, growth as an individual, as well as the community. I now understand what it means to live for God and strive to show others His love everyday. I feel called now, more than ever, to share it with strangers in a foreign country.
So why The World Race? Honestly, I had no idea what organizations outside of my church even existed regarding mission trips. I had been looking at a few for a little while and was still lost. I called a really good friend and she was telling me about how one of her friends did the gap year trip and that there were so many options. After that phone call I looked up the website and instantly started crying (definitely a God moment). I looked through all the beliefs and values and made a yes to The World Race as a whole the next day.
