Washing White Walls. A seemingly menial and mundane task yet such a blessing to the ministry of Ciudad Refugio.

The past couple weeks in Medellín, God has been working so much in the tasks we so often overlook. Whether it is washing white walls in the kitchen, packaging hundreds of boxes of cumin, or cleaning the poop out of countless shrimp, God is present in all of it. These sweet hours working with my teammates continue to remind me of a song by Bryan and Katie Torwalt that goes like this:

“How quickly we forget the God who lives in every day. How quickly we lose sight that you reside in the mundane.”

When we are scrubbing white walls, we are allowing others time to create meaningful relationships. When we pack boxes with fingers stained orange from the spices, the Holy Spirit is moving as we spontaneously worship and become vulnerable with each other. When we have shrimp innards stuck under our fingernails, we are providing variety in a repetitive routine with repetitive meals. In all of these mundane and mildly unpleasant tasks, I am reminded that this too is where the Lord resides.

Loving the joy of the Lord,
