I would like to share a simplified explanation on how to make coffee from start to finish. This month I’m working on a coffee farm whose profits benefit missionaries all over the world. I’ve been able be apart of most of the coffee process so far & I’m excited to share what I’ve learned about a drink a lot of us love – COFFEE!!
Step 1: It all starts with a baby coffee plant
Step 2: After 2 years of growing, the coffee is ready to be picked. October-February is the best season for picking. The coffee cherries are a bright red when ready
Step 3: After the coffee cherries are picked, they are dried out in the sun for about 15 days. They turn a dark brown and that’s when you know the shell is ready to be removed
Step 4: The shells are removed with a machine and there are 2 beans inside each cherry
Step 5: The beans that come out of the shell are a tan/green color and need to be sorted through to pick out any shells or imperfections
Step 6: It’s roasting time!!! Beans are roasted at 220 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes until they turn a deep chocolate color
Step 7: Beans are sorted again for any imperfections (they are thorough here haha)
Step 8: Now it’s the final step before packaging – grinding the roasted coffee beans! The whole beans are put into a large grinder and in just seconds they turn into the ground coffee we all know and love!
Who wants a fresh bag of this Panamanian coffee?? My next fundraiser gives you a chance to win one! For every $10 you donate your name will be entered into a drawing (ex. If you donate $50 you name will be entered 5 times). On September 1st I’m going to draw 3 names. Whoever is the lucky winner will be shipped a bag of fresh coffee I have so lovingly picked and packaged!
