I was listening to a speaker at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event a couple months ago and his message that night spoke to me and has stayed with me. It wasn’t until today that those exact words from this speaker just appeared in my head.
The message was that has humans we look for a verdict. A verdict made of three things; to be loved, to be valued, and to be enjoyed. We become slaves to external factors that we believe without, we would not be enough. We look for approval from our professors, our co-workers, our superiors at work and even our dearest friends. Their approval comes from our accomplishments in the classroom, the office, and in our social relationships. We thrive on these daily consents from others.
The truth is we do not need to be slaves anymore. Jesus can provide us with the verdict we seek every single day. He loves us, He values us, He enjoys our company, He died for us. If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking. Romans 5:5 states, “and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Telling us that our hope doesn’t fear because we rest in God’s character. We can count on His love that is eternal, immutable and faithful. His love has been poured into our hearts since the day of salvation and continues into our daily lives. His love is a gift of lavish generosity. It’s time to break the chains of what enslaves us, it’s time to see that Jesus can fill what you believe in your heart cannot be filled because His love is never ending.
I have felt more alive than ever the last couple of months. I’m so excited to go and continue to seek a God that is so good, to grow and learn that I do not need the approval of others. I’m excited to share how God can fill the verdicts you seek. I believe that is dearly helpful to be reminded of the love our God has for each and every one of us and if we let His love in then we will be cleansed with overwhelming joy.
Much love and many blessings,
Rachel
