I have learned time and time again how cool God is and perfectly planned every little thing is.
After some very difficult goodbyes yesterday morning at the hotel and the airport, I boarded my first flight to make my way home. There were only about 15 people on my flight total so the flight attendants allowed us to sit wherever we wanted to spread out. I picked a window seat (praise) and took some time to write in my journal and turn on some music. The very first song that came on shuffle was “Well Done” by The Afters. This sent peace straight into my soul. After feeling like my mission was unfinished, it felt so good to hear the words “well done” as if the Lord was telling me that He was pleased with the mission I was able to complete! As I was writing, I took a moment to look out the window to admire the view and was so in awe of what I saw. Staring down at the clouds, I saw the shadow of my airplane moving along. Perfectly circling my airplane was a rainbow (pictured below).
As many of you know, God sent a rainbow to Noah after the flood as a covenant with him that he would never again destroy the earth with a flood. A covenant is the highest form of a promise in the Bible. It is a commitment between God and His people. Upon seeing this, peace just flooded my whole body and I knew the Lord was covering me right then. I was surrounded by Him just as the shadow of my airplane was surrounded by His rainbow, His promise. Our God is the God of the promise. He ALWAYS… read that word again…ALWAYS fulfills His promises. And what I am beginning to realize is that His promise to me was not that I would spend 3 months on the race that I was planning for, His promise was that I would get to be His hands and feet. I would get to serve Him and I would get to be His disciple. That promise is not bound to one country, into one experience, or even one season of life! That promise extends for as long as my feet are walking this earth. I got to be His hands and feet in Nicaragua for 6 weeks and in Guatemala for 1 week. I now get to be His hands and feet in the U.S. for as long as I am here and who knows where else He will send me! His promise was not empty because I was sent home early, His promise was fulfilled more that I could have imagined. He is the promise keeper!
With peace in my soul and a full heart, I know home is where He wants me, and I’m so thankful He sent me that rainbow so that I would not be mistaken for what His promise to me really was.
With love, Rachel <3
