I learned SO MANY amazing things at the Sisterhood Priceless Conference at my home church- Brightmoor Christian Church. I just felt the need to share some of the valuable preaching I heard. At this conference, there were so many lives saved by the Holy Spirit, so many women and girls dedicated their lives to Jesus and it was so overwhelming to feel the presence of the Lord in that sanctuary so strong!
There were 3 outstanding speakers at this conference and I just want to share some of the points they made during their time on the stage.
The first speaker was Havilah Cunnington. First off, how cool is her name!? I love that. She was so down to earth and funny, but also very in-your-face about exactly what Christians need to hear. EVERYONE has a calling, and we need to fulfill that calling. The enemy sees the calling we have, and he wants to take that from us. He wants to distract us from what we need to be doing. He is very sneaky in his ways of taking from us, but we need to focus ourselves on our calling and BE AWARE that we have a target on our back. Havilah said, “My life is too short and my calling is too great to let someone else’s dust get in my lens.” The lens is our perspective on our life, and the dust is the distraction. The dust can be anything- it can be a friend, loved one, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. trying to convince us our calling is not right, or not “of God.” But… THE DEVIL CAN USE PEOPLE WE ARE CLOSE TO TO TRY AND CONVINCE US SOMETHING IS NOT OF GOD!!! (pay close attention the the bold and all caps!) Remember, nobody can tell you what your heart knows. If you know and believe in your heart that it IS God, nobody can tell you otherwise. The dust can be dwelling on something somebody has said about you, because it causes you to try to live to change their perspective of you, which throws you off the path of your calling. Besides, you don’t have the power to change how someone thinks of you! The last super crazy thing she said, and this was one of my favorites, was “What the enemy can’t take from you, he will convince you to sacrifice.” How eye opening is that… The enemy convinces us to sacrifice?? Yes. Read that again. We take advice from a liar, a thief, a destroyer!? (John 10:10) Don’t give that power to the enemy! He takes what is not and never was his to begin with! Our calling is too great to let the enemy take from us or convince us to give up. Our calling is too great to let another human being have power over us and tell us what they think is in our plan.
The second speaker was Whitney Capps. She was very real and open about what we need to wake up to. My favorite thing that she said was, “General confession leads to general obedience. Specific confession leads to specific obedience.” (How convicting is that!?) Read it again! Who, when they pray, repents of their sin by saying, “Oh Lord forgive me of my sins, please help me become a better Christian.” Or something along those lines? It’s pretty general. Stay away from that! With specific confession, we will see more progress in our obedience. The Holy Spirit ALWAYS convicts us of our sin. When we pray something more along the lines of, “Lord, convict me of my sin so I can repent. Forgive me for __, __, etc. Help me with __, __, etc.” When we pray for specific things, we see more specific growth in our lives. Let’s say you have a problem with judging people too harshly. You could pray for forgiveness for saying someones hair looked bad or someones outfit looked like they picked it out in the dark. You could then ask for help in finding the good in the way people look. For example, instead of noticing someones shoes totally didn’t match their outfit, you notice the shoes alone are extremely cute! See? Growth!
The third and final speaker was Heather Lindsey. The was a very powerful speaker and spoke about letting go of strongholds and focusing on God no matter what season of life we’re in. The number one thing I got out of her speaking was, “Whatever you feed will live, whatever you starve will die.” Think of the things you spend the most time with, and think of that compared to how much time you spend the Jesus. Then read that quote again… It was very convicting for me because that was something I really needed to be slapped in the face with!! Look at your daily routine and think of where you “fit God in” if you even spend time with God at all. We should desire God and His presence. Notice she said “desire” and not just want. Desire is much stronger than want, it means we are desperate for it and nobody needs to convince us to spend time with Him. Think of the desire you might have for a spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend. You might want to spend all your time with them and nobody can convince you to stay away from them, that’s desire. We should have desire for the Lord!
That’s a summary of the super important takeaways I got from the conference. I hope this reached someone in some way, if you made it all the way to the bottom haha.
With love, Rachel <3
