Hey everyone! I just wanted to share the link to my most recent blog. I posted it to Youtube a few days ago but haven’t had service to share it on my blog yet, so here ya go!
We were dropped off at the airport around 1 pm on Monday the 27th and we spent most of the day there awaiting our first flight that departed at 7 pm. We spent the day hanging out and we split up in groups for lunch and had a fun time. Our first flight was to Fort Lauderdale, FL and landed at about 9 pm and we had a few hours of a layover until midnight when our second flight to Managua, Nicaragua departed. We got dinner, hung out for a bit and I had the chance to talk on the phone with some really special people. I do miss home a lot for sure, so it was really good to catch up with some family. Our flight to Managua landed at about 1:30 their time, 2:30 our time. We immediately went through customs and got on our bus to a hostel for the rest of the night. It was a little scary riding through the valleys of a foreign country when it was pitch black in the middle of the night, but hey, I’m posting this blog so we all know we survived LOL. We split up about 6 people per room at the hostel and guess what… THERE WERE SHOWERS!!! PRAISE GOD!!! We all took nice cold showers and went to bed. On Tuesday the 28th, we had breakfast at about 9 am and then at about 12 we piled into a bus and made our way to the coast to catch a ferry to Ometepe Island. We stopped for Papa Johns on the way, yum! The bus ride was very beautiful, as you can see from the vlog. We got onto the ferry and had to walk up a pretty steep pile of stairs with our packs on, and if you saw my post on facebook a while back, I ALMOST turtled…it was a very scary time. It was uncomfortably hot that day and I was sweating buckets, but I had one of my Salvation Army skirts on so I felt pretty cute 😉 We made it to the island after dark and piled into busses one more time to make our way to Cicrin Orphanage! We had dinner when we got there then went to the pavilion, or as they call it “el rancho” and we worshipped the Lord for bringing us to this place safely and with so much passion in our hearts. It was such an amazing experience, getting to worship through song while standing next to a giant lake in Nicaragua. The heat masked by the breeze was unforgettable and just being there, singing my heart out and letting go of every fear I held in my heart was incredible. That takes you all the way through my vlog, so thank you for watching/reading! I hope the vlogs I continue to post give you a sense of comfort getting to see where I am at and become familiar with everything. I am so excited to be able to share this stuff with y’all and Im so excited for more vlogs!
Con amor, Rachel <3
