In the days before mass crusades and live stream services, over 1 million souls came to Christ under the preaching and ministry of D.L. Moody. ONE MILLION PEOPLE!?! Even today, that’s a lot of people! I try to imagine what a crowd of a million people would look like. I can’t! My mind can’t even picture what that would look like.
When I think about D.L Moody’s life, I can’t help but be reminded of Proverbs 11:30.
The fruit of righteousness is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
What accounts for Moody’s wisdom? Just as He was beginning his ministry, Moody heard a preacher say “The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully surrendered to Him.” As he considered this statement, his reply was “By God’s grace, I’ll be that man”. He lived everyday with this end in mind… and at the end of his life, over a million people were reconciled to their Savior.
What else is worth living for?
I have several core values that I strive to live my life by. One of them follows in the footsteps of D.L. Moody.
At the end of my life, I want it to be said of me that I lived a life fully yielded to the Spirit of the Living God and followed the Lamb that was slain where ever He leads – no matter the cost.
