This is a summary of my time in Cambodia and some pictures & videos 🙂

Month 6: Siem Reap, Cambodia

Ministry: Teaching English and Bible classes

Team Ascension- Rachel, Grace T., Grace Chase., AT, LB, Jamie

What each day of the week looked like:

Saturday & Sunday: Off-days

Monday-Friday: 9:00-11:00 taught at the orphanage with Chance, 5:30-7:30 taught English at CMC (Cambodian Ministries for Christ)

In the mornings we taught English and then a Bible story. We did a skit of the story, asked the students questions about it, and then did a drawing or craft. Some stories we did include the parable of the lost sheep, Daniel in the lions den, and David & Goliath.

In the evenings we had several classes going on. From 5:30-6:30 Jamie, Chase, and I taught an English class to adults. This consisted of topic-based conversations, reading & studying news articles, and even worshipping together on Fridays. From 6:30-7:30 Grace and I taught English to 16 upper-elementary aged students. We taught them songs, gave them homework, taught the different types of questions, and even had the opportunity to tell them about Jesus for the first time. So cool to be a part of this. Grace and I were both so blessed by this class. Loved co-teaching with her!! 🙂

Challenges of the month:

Being sick for the first week- the huge amount of bugs everywhere- how it took 30 minutes just to get to town- staying present, which is actually just a challenge of life

Awesomeness:

Telling our students about Jesus for the first time- my surprise EPIC birthday celebration- the peaceful feeling of living in the middle of nowhere- watching movies as a team especially scary movies and laughing at each other- Valentine’s Day dance parties- our squad leader Derik coming to visit us the second half of the month- going to Hard Rock Café on the weekends- going to a skate park during our free time and meeting some kids there- meeting my new friend Catty from Italy and hearing about her adventures- doing prayer walks with Grace- riding in tuk-tuks everywhere and feeling the breeze- receiving gifts from my students such as mangos, flowers, drawings, bracelets, and candy- watching ants in my free time- worshipping with my team- playing cards in class and later being told it’s illegal to play them here because everyone gambles LOL oops- learning Hakuna Matata on ukulele- seeing a dog that looks just like my Winnie except orange- playing with the newborn puppies on our property- praying for God to send me someone to share my story with, and He did exactly that!!!- worshipping with guitar and ukulele in my evening English class- line dancing with the students- worshipping on the rooftop at the Overflow AIM base with the other teams- going to Angkor Wat temple, which is one of the seven wonders of the world- seeing elephants on the road- finding a building with hundreds of random frogs- trying to eat a cooked chicken foot and failing miserably- watching the birds around the property

Sights/Colors:

Orange dirt roads everywhere, palm trees, construction, blue skies, bright yellow sun, kids riding their bikes, tuk-tuks everywhere, smiling people, dogs everywhere, mosquitos everywhere

Sounds to remember:
birds, music playing in the distance, lizards, overall it was really quiet since we lived 30 minutes from town

Favorite Verses of the Month:

Romans 12:2- Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

1 Peter 4:10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

My own personal Bible readings: Romans, Proverbs 20-31, Ecclesiastes, memorized 1 Corinthians 13 and Romans 12:2, still reading “Love Does” by Bob Goff, reading “The Gospel According to Moses” with my team

Thank you so much for your love and support!! We are officially on the downhill slope of the World Race. Please pray for endurance…that we will finish the Race strong!! Love you all!!!
