This is a summary of my time in Zimbabwe 🙂

Month 9: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Ministry: Unsung Heroes

Team 113 (1 Corinthians 13)- Rachel, Grace T., Grace C., AT, LB, Mason, Luke…we also had our squad leader Ashley with us all month, she’s great!!

What we did:

Unsung Heroes is a World Race ministry in which the team works to find contacts for future World Race teams instead of having a set ministry host like usual. As a team, we did alot of online research, prayed a TON, visited churches, participated in prayer meetings and bible studies, visited orphanages and schools, emailed and met with different organizations, and laid the foundation for so many amazing things to happen in Bulawayo in the future. Grace Chase was our Unsung Hero coordinator, and she did an amazing job!!!

Sundays- We split into groups and visited various churches. I went to “Word of Life,” “Harvest House,” and “Selbourne Park” churches. It was amazing to participate in the lively worship they do here in Zimbabwe…everyone is dancing and singing at the top of their lungs. They worship so freely and in the Spirit…so amazing!!

Monday > Thursday- Team meeting in the morning, then we would split into groups to visit organizations and schools. I went to the Sandra Jones Center, World Vision, King George IV School for the Disabled, and a lot more. In the evenings we would cook dinner and hang out together by watching a movie, worshipping together, or looking at the stars.

Friday & Saturday- Off Days…usually spent relaxing at our place called Burke’s Paradise

Awesomeness:

Going on the rhino safari tour- the breathtaking views on the top of the mountains after the steep climb- sharing a room with Grace Chase…the beds were the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in all year- going grocery shopping with LB in the enormous grocery store- going out for Grace’s birthday- eating at Chicken Slice, Pizza Slice haha- praying for Mason and the pain in his hip and seeing Jesus heal him before our very eyes- going to the Bulawayo prayer room in the center of town and praying over the education system here- sitting in my hammock in the mornings and listening to the birds and praying- meeting tons of travelers coming through, from San Diego, Germany, Israel, and more- going to the restaurant 26 on Park- eating cheese and crackers with Age- catching the bus at the end of the road, which is actually a crowded van- the cool weather, which is such a relief from the heat of the past 8 months- seeing stores with funny names such as “Boys N Da Hood,” “Shuz for U,” and “Luv Dat Chicken”- passing out food to people on the street and praying for them- going to the women’s bible study at Word of Life Church and being the speaker representative for my group, gave a short talk on the Fruit of the Spirit- going to Indaba Café for really good coffee and wifi- Grace Chase’s delicious homemade quesedillas- going to the Sandra Jones Center and playing with the kids there and seeing their puppies and bunnies- sitting around the campfire with a guy from San Francisco and telling him all about the Mothman- learning about the dung beetle, which, well I’ll have to tell you about it in person haha- watching movies as a team on Luke’s projector- getting to know Vicki, Adam, their kids, and Juliet- looking at the stars together- playing with Lilly and Simba- going to sit and pray on the big rock I found in the woods- cooking dinner together and making music videos- worshipping and praying in the prayer room in Vicki & Adam’s house, and seeing the Holy Spirit move- so much more!!!

Sounds to remember:

The dogs, Lilly and Simba, barking- wind blowing- birds chirping everywhere- iguana lizard things crawling up the tree by my hammock- backpackers talking and hanging out next door to our room- laughter- the kids playing up at the house
