Hi, I’m Rachel and I just turned 28 last week (and I love celebrating birthdays :)…)! I am an only child and have lived all my life in a small, rural farm area in northern Indiana (minus 2 years spent at college in SC). I still live at home with my parents on the farm where my dad grew up, and we had dairy cows until I was 10. My mom is one of four and my dad is one of five, so I have lots of extended family and am blessed to have a close family.
I work as a dental hygienist and piano teacher. I’ve actually already left my full-time dental hygiene position to have more time to prepare for the World Race, but will continue to sub (like a substitute teacher) in offices until I leave. I will also keep teaching piano and currently have 5 students (ages 4 to 16) and really enjoy it. Both of my “jobs” are things I love and am passionate about, and I am so thankful that most days don’t feel like a job.
I have been interested in cross-cultural and international missions a long time and was excited when I first learned of the World Race. It sounded like the coolest mission trip, but dismissed the idea, thinking it was a great opportunity for everyone else that God called to go, but that it wasn’t really for me. I was working hygiene full-time and loved my job, but a few months later God clearly showed me that He meant for me to be one of the people to go! I promised to keep walking through open doors until He choose to close one (and He hasn’t yet!), and that’s how I find myself here, getting ready to leave for nearly a year on a mission trip of a lifetime. I am so excited to be able to share the love of Jesus Christ and His Good News with those around the world!
Above everything else in my life, I desire to live in light of the Gospel and to walk with Jesus daily. I hope that when others get to know me, they see Christ. It is my prayer that this little blog will be filled with the huge things God is doing, and will do, in my life and all over this green Earth God created throughout my time on the World Race. Thanks for stopping by and getting to know me a bit! 🙂
