First fundraiser is complete! I have spent my Sunday nights bartending for the last four weeks. Before you jump to conclusions, I didn’t spend them in a bar staying up until 2am dealing with people who were too drunk to function. In fact, it was the complete opposite.

I work in a coffee shop and one of my long-time regular customers, Dennis, asked me to help him serve drinks at his annual social that he holds at his house. He has people that him and his wife, Pat, know from work or just from doing life together. I helped last year, but this year was different. I used it as a fundraising opportunity and invited my friend Jess who is also going on the Race. I told Dennis about The World Race and he said he would love to help. He paid us and let us work for tips. In four Sundays, Jess and I each made $320 by socializing and making drinks for people. It’s a blessing to have made a small dent in the amount of money we need to raise, but more importantly, we were able to share Jesus with people we wouldn’t normally meet.

Over the four weeks we spoke with 50 different people. Some were more interested than others, but they were all excited for us to go on our adventure. It’s easy to talk to people who you already have a relationship with or people that you know have already established their relationship with Christ. If you want to reach out to others, you need to stick yourself into their social circles and understand where they are coming from. We enjoyed talking with a group of people who we knew nothing about regarding this opportunity we’ve been given.

Overall Jess and I were blessed to have an opportunity to talk with all the individuals at the socials and hope that they take the time to follow our blogs when we are in the field!

3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
