So since being on the Race I have had a series of dreams. My dreams have always been extremely vivid. Down to being able to see the color of my socks.
So back in India I had a dream of being at 2 different football games. One was at a public high school that had a worn out stadium, while the other was at a high end private school. I was there cheering on two different kids, but I was not related to either one. I didn’t get the chance to see the kids faces but I just knew that they meant the world to me and that I was one of the few people there cheering them on.
In Nepal I had a series of 3 dreams. The first one was at a community service project that I was leading. There were 2 groups of kids in attendance, one was from an inner city school and one was from a boarding school. They were working side by side to help clean up the city. There wasn’t a social class difference, there wasn’t a race separation, they were just kids trying to make a difference. They were motivated and were really showing what a servant’s heart should look like without the prejudice that is going on in our world today.
The second dream was right before a short term mission trip. It was the same group of kids from both schools, but the dream was all about the preparation. They were looking at equipment, trying to learn bits of the language, and fundraising. Even though the kids from the boarding school could have easily afforded it, they were challenged to fundraise their entire trip along side the inner city kids. They were on equal terms and had the same struggles. They shared ideas and coordinated events to help fundraise. The last scene was all of us about to board a plane to Ecuador for a week long trip to work in orphanages.
The third and final dream was a picture of my life in the future. It was set in a house that was on the lakeside. There were about 15 kayaks piked up on the bank with a fire pit and grill out back. It was summer time and there was a constant stream of kids in and out of the house. All around middle to high school age. All from different schools. It was a safe haven for kids that had a difficult home life. From parents that traveled too much for work and were disconnected, to drug addicts and abandonment. We grilled out, went and played on the lake, and just bonded in community and as a family without judgment or expectations.
Before being on the race, I’ve always had a passion for inner city kids. There is such a physical and never-ending need to help them. After being on the race, a passion for kids of middle or high class social class has grown as well. Just because there isn’t a physical need, they still can go through so much. I often think that just because the need isn’t physical like new clothes or decent home, it gets swept under the rug. But the psychological needs are just as important.
So for after the race, I plan on going back to school to get my Masters degree as a counselor to work with kids in middle or high school. As I said in my last blog, I could have completely misread this and God may change my heart over these next 7 months but I’m walking in confidence that this is what I am supposed to do. There is so much that can be done all over the world. Not just in 3rd world countries but also back home in America. So thanks for partnering with me on this trip! If you have any questions or just want to know more about this or what we have done so far on the race, please feel free to reach out.
