[ Apologies for the random sizes of the photos in this blog….you never know what faulty internet will do:) ]
After numerous requests,
here it is.
It’s been a long time in coming,
but I am proud to announce:
PART 2 !
There is a little catching up to do, so I’ll start with debrief in Nelspruit.
So it’s hot and sweaty in Mozambique and you want a new tank top!
Here is a DIY tip to add spice to your worn out wardrobe,
so get out your cutting materials and that old tshirt.

Cut straight from under the arm to an inch from the neckline…
Yay, now you have a cute and comfy tank top!
Oh no! Country change?
Sadly, yes.
Sometimes on the race, you will be in a predicament where the next country
you’re in requires long pants or covered shoulders for cultural norms sake.
But alas, you were previously in Mozambique waking up in puddles of sweat
due to the 125 degree weather and humidity, and you cut all your t shirts and pants
into cute tank tops and shorts…
What to do, what to do?!
…simply reapply the disposed of material as best you can and voilà: modest is hottest!

Something unique to the World Race is the FREE PILE.
If properly implemented…the free pile is a trove of goodies that,
with a little digging,
can produce a plethora of cute, new outfits.
You are basically recreating fresh looks with your fellow teammates tossed out clothing,
so put on your creative caps and get to work!
(This trendy tip is especially enjoyable for previous goodwill and thrift store hunters…)
There are only two rules to the free pile:
1) for every item you take, you have to give one up.
2) do not take underwear (this should be obvious).
Here is my free pile outfit for my last dinner out
with my team Grow Freely before team changes:
Blue Floral Dress: actually a skirt I pulled up high that belonged to Sunny.
Grey Cardigan: previously Hannah Wunder’s.
Leather Belt: I don’t know whose it was, but it’s mine now.
I already had black leggings, and black sandals (not pictured) were Rebecca Porky’s!
Moving on to Swaziland!
We had just finished ministry one day, and on the walk home some of us girls
stopped at a bakery for some coffee and cupcakes.
While we were sitting inside we looked out the window and saw this cool guy dressed in the coolest clothes,
sporting a rad woven backpack.

When we asked him where he got his fly backpack, he replied:
“I made it. Would you like to see everything I’ve made? I sell it.”
Umm…..YES.
So he rolled out his show,
and we found out he sells this stuff at fashion shows in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa.
We all bought a few bags similar to this one, for about 150…approx. 12 USD!

India.
What do you picture when someone says fashion in India?
Hopefully bright colors and sparkles.
We have had an amazing time driving through Indian street markets and shopping in Indian malls. Women are required to cover their shoulders and ankles here,
so we picked out some dresses and wear leggings all the time,
even in the crazy Indian heat.
Here is the one I chose. That's pastor's daughter, Joanna Grace in her pretty Sunday dress. SHe is the the sweetest!

I also got a few huge tapestries and large pieces of fabric, they are so beautiful!
You are supposed to buy these pieces of cloth
and take them to be made into full outfits, but I’m just taking them home for curtains, blankets and tapestries.

The jewelry. It’s brilliant.
I was praying in a village with my team and a little girl gave me this necklace.
I love necklaces, they are my favorite piece of jewelry.
It reminded me of when God gave me a necklace a few months before training camp.
I didn’t even realize it matched my dress I picked out perfectly the next day.
So here is my bling from India:

We also found some pretty anklets, lots of the girls wear them on both ankles in the city:

And no look is complete in India without some Henna.
Jess got this intricate design on her hand when we were out the other day.
It was only 2 USD!

The final touch is the hair, which sweet little girls will braid and put flowers in. The look is complete!

So that wraps up the second World Race Fashion Blog!
Stay tuned for more fashion updates as we backpack across
Asia for the next few months, and then Europe after that.
Love,
Rach
