My teammate Juliette is amazing at taking photos… she is allowing me to share them with you… this gives you a bit of insight to our ministry this month.
This is our house this month. I live with 27 other people. There are 3 showers and 4 toilets. We live in the nicest neighborhood in the city, for safety reasons. We don’t have A/C but do get to sleep on mattresses. We have running water, sometimes. There is a grocery store a few blocks away as well as a pharmacy. Look’s nice huh?
A 30 minute walk from our neighborhood is the slum that we are working in. This is what a typical house looks like, lots of scraps nailed together to try and keep the water out. no floors, no doors, no electricity or running water.
One of the beautiful families we get to sit and talk with and pray with and encourage.
This is the canal we are digging. It is one of our main projects this month. The stagnant water that comes with the daily rain floods the floor-less homes and provides a breeding ground for mosquitos … which then cause death to many people because of malaria and dengue fever. The canal is 250 ft long. It runs from the center of the slum to the river that surrounds it. We haven’t gotten very far yet, but have already prevented flooding for multiple homes. Oh and isnt she precious?
The slum is full of beautiful faces. We have VBS with the kids in the mornings. We teach them about Christ, and what life abounding in his love looks like. We teach them character traits … patience, forgiveness, love, gentleness and on and on …
Another…
and more…
This is Dulce. This is her beautiful home. She has started a house church and is also our safe house in case something every happens… she makes the best espresso and acts as a grandma bear for all the children in the neighborhood.
A smile that brings HOPE and JOY. You know that God has plans for these people… they are precious and beautiful and are lights in the darkness.
Hopefully this gives you a glimpse… just a few of the faces and things.
Love you all
