We awoke on the rooftop at the compound we were staying at
and ate an amazing breakfast. We have been eating so well here in Haiti so far.
We loaded on a school bus with all four teams and heading into Port AuPrince to
meet our contact. We then loaded into a truck 5 in the cab (with Jamile, our
driver) and 3 in the back on top of all our luggage. We began a beautiful
journey up the coastline as we traveled through Haiti, up into the mountains. After
about an hour or so we arrived at Canaan. A beautiful orphanage with many
children and an amazing cook. We met up with the daughter of the founders,
Jamine. We sat and shared with her about the things we could be doing while we
are here. It is very laid back, the heat makes it that way. We have not had our
team meeting to decide and piece everything together yet, but you will NEVER
guess what I will be doing this month… drum roll please…. TEACHING! The
students are in summer school here, and they have put Jamine in charge of
teaching all the children who need help. Many of the students actually want to
go to school as well. She is in dire need of support and help. I am in awe of
God bringing our team here, we have two teachers on our team! I will be working
with one child for most of the time, one on one tutoring!! Bonnie… umm can you
say Reading Club on three…1,2,3! He is very far behind in school and lacking
motivation… I can not wait to help him this month and help him fall in love
with learning.

Other focuses are working on English and social skills with the
kiddos. We will be doing some construction projects and teaching the kids
hygiene skills and community living skills. Us ladies will also spend a special
focus on having intention conversations and bible studies that teach them about
their worth, purity, and empowerment themed conversations. It seems the culture
pushes them to a life of moving in with a man and having babies until he leaves
for someone else… we want better for these girls and they deserve better. We
will focus on teaching them about their worth, that they are daughters of
CHRIST and talk about identity and value. CAN YOU TELL THAT I AM PUMPED!!!  We will also spend one day a week
working in the clinic with a nutrition program for the community!!! So
exciting! and those of you who know me well… an extra blessing God through in…
we are very close to a beautiful beach for our down days and there is also a
huge hill that I can jog up to stay in shape! I don’t know if I could ask for
more.

all of our past adventures have been done on video blog. we are working on getting these up. I will also try and get the pictures from DR back up… stay tuned!
