I had the privellage of visiting an orphange for the first time on Christmas, two days ago. I walked into the first room and was horrified. There were 16 orphaned children between the ages of 1-3 all laying on the same four beds. My chest tighened up and I could hardly breathe. I was speechless. All I could do was break down and cry. Thus far on the race I haven't experienced any type of culture shock like this. I couldn't believe what I was seeing before my eyes. I have seen similiar things like this on t.v. and heard from other missionaries, but this surpassed them all.
Team Azar Ignited and Team S.O.A.R. have been working with Sarah's Covenant Home for ministry this month. SCH is an orphange that houses 111 beautiful special needs children. They suffer with a variety of disabilites and diseases ranging from HIV, MR, cerebral palsy, seizures, autism, blind, lame, deaf, downsyndrome and many others. They also suffer with emotional trauma, abandomnet and rejection. They are orphans because their biological parents believe their disabilities are a curse from the Hindu gods and were ashamed to raise them.
This is what you would call a heavy month of ministry. But the teams are fighting hard on behalf of these kids. They are literally being the hands and feet of Jesus and invading that place with the love of God. They hold them, play with them, kiss them, bathe them, laugh with them, nap with them, smile with them, and sit with them. Everyday they get up and go to ministry morning after morning to pour out care onto them. I am so proud of these men and women and their self abandonment. Their heart is not only to serve the "least of these" but to radically love them in tangible ways.
They rallied up the troops back home and have raised well over $2,000 to give the ministry a financial blessing when they leave India in a week. My heart is so stirred that I wanted to invite you into this beautiful expression of God's love.
