How on Earth do you live simplistically for 11 months? Great question…I will also find out very soon. We have a packing list given to us, but the list is clearly limited. The first time I looked at it, I was blown away. How can I live on max of 8 shirts for 11 months? This is something new to me and I’ve haven’t really thought about it a whole lot. Here, I am blessed with my own room the size of someone’s house, pratically in the whole world, and my closet alone could fit 1 person comfortably. Granted I know that isn’t all that large, but I’m not sure if I’m okay with the fact that it’s loaded with clothes I don’t wear and shoes that are too small for me.
Simplicity? I guess here it is.
Basics Necessary for the Race
- Kelty Salida 2-person tent, 3-season
- Kelty Salida 2 footprint (this is the piece that goes under the tent so when it rains, my tent will not be wet on the bottom, leaving me and my gear wet.)
- Airporter “Pack Duffle”-This is used for big pack when it comes to travel. It helps with preventing the wear and tear of the pack.
- Kelty Coyote 75 W Pack (green) I HAVE THIS ONE THANKS TO AMAZING REI STAFF!
- Headlamp-so I don’t run into trees in Central America 😉 Most places we go may not have electricity, so having a headlamp is crucial.
- Sleeping Bag-I’VE GOT THIS ONE COVERED AS WELL!
- On top of this, I need International Insurance, which is about $320 for 11 months (not too bad) through GNI, a company AIM uses on all their trips.
- A plane ticket to launch (not exactly sure where this is right now, but will let you know once I figure it all out.)
I’m currently at $4,300! Praise God! I am going to training camp in July and this is really encouraging. However, before I leave in September I need to raise $6,000. If I raise more than that, then great! In total, I need to raise $10,500 by December 28th and $14,800 by March 18th. But here’s the encouraging thing…with pledges that have been given I am around 1/3 the way there! 🙂
