I have never been so thankful for beer! (and pop!)
This is not because I enjoy drinking them (because I don't really care for either), but rather because other people do and were willing to donate their recyclables to me! Through collecting cans today, I was provided with $123.70 to go toward the world race! Praise the Lord! My fingers were ultra sticky after returning the 937 bottles and cans (the other $30 were cash donations from my neighbors :)), but I couldn't be happier. Almost $125 in under 4 hours.. not bad at all!
Today's lessons:
God is faithful. I was nervous to go door to door today and was slightly discouraged when the first few houses weren't home. Then the first person I came to was not interested in anything I had to say and slammed the door in my face. However, other people were home, other people were nice, other people were excited to give me their cans and hear about the trip. Through this God provided not just some of the finances necessary for my trip, but some encouragement also!
Humility. I've never met anyone whose favorite pastime or favorite way to spend their day off is collecting and returning beer cans and pop bottles, but the Lord used it as an opportunity to humble me. Asking for money is uncomfortable. Returning cans is messy. But knowing that it will raise money to help me served the underserved, love people desparate for Love and people straving for truth, makes it all worthwhile. It doesn't seem like a sacrifice when I look at it that way, but rather an opportunity for more joy.
It doesn't hurt to ask. Proven by the cans that I received not only from my neighbors, but a random guy at Meijer too! My small bit of boldness paid off as I probably returned about 100 cans of his and got to keep the $10 🙂 Another stranger said that he would pray for me while I was gone, which I thought was sweet!
Support Update: I presently have $543.70 in hand and have a few others saying that they wish to support me (I just don't know the specific amounts yet). Yay! That is progess, but please continue to pray that God would continue to lead me to people who desire to give and lay it upon people's hearts to give generously and cheerfully.
