some of the places where we have been
I love that in many of the places we have lived, we have been surrounded by mountains. We have also had the opportunity to go to the beach many times. Growing up in Chicagoland, I never traveled far beyond the Midwest. The first time I saw the mountains and ocean a teenager, I was in awe at God’s creation and I fell instantly in love.
There is something about nature and the beauty of God’s creation that makes me feel so much closer to Him and yet so much in awe of his grandeur. Being surrounded by mountains and gazing into the vast ocean reminds me how big God is. Seeing the sheer size of the peaks and feeling the power of the waves reminds me of how mighty God is.
Around the same time I first experienced the mountains and ocean, I began to question the religion I had grown up with all my life and knew so much about. Then God began to become personal to me, a process that is still in the making. One of the first worship songs I first fell in love with was “Shout to the Lord.” I love the power behind the lyrics:
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of your name
If even the mountains and sea worship and revere God, how much more should we? If something as big as a mountains would bow to its creator, how much more should we tiny humans honor Him?

view from where we are now- we climbed up here!
