“if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him
something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his
head.” Romans 12:20

Tonight i did a little study on “will heap burning coals on his head”.  Seems a little harsh right?  Well if you take it literally then yes, but apparently Paul is quoting these words from Proverbs 25:22.  And actually the idea of throwing burning coals on someone’s heads was an ancient Egyptian custom.  People who wanted to show public remorse or penitent would  carry a  pan of burning coals on their head.

So showing our enemies love will in return help soften their heart.  Just as metal melts when it is put in the fire, so will the hardened heart of an enemy who is shown love.
