It is not a challenge for us to become consumed in our own lives, to turn a blind eye to the horrible things occurring across the world. In fact, we have gotten very good at serving ourselves and not others.
The media does a great job of covering tragedies as they occur. In fact many different stations compete to share the breaking news first. It does a superb job at informing us on what ISIS is up to, informing us what is going on in North Korea and informing us on Trump building a wall. (Please do not interpret this as me thinking that these things are not important, because they are indeed very important). However what the media fails to show us is what follows the tragedy and devastation.
You see, poverty is not pretty. It is not exciting. It is not new to us. It does not stir up fear in our hearts. These are the things (pretty, new, exciting and fear producing) that the media showcases.
For a moment I want to open your eyes to something that is not glamorous, that is not new + exciting. I want to open your eyes to the life that many, many people are living. A life full of devastation and destruction. A life of little possessions.
These are the precious faces of children in a small village in Uganda. Despite what the children have witnessed + experienced- each one of them is filled with joy. These children become giddy from seeing themselves for the very first time. They get so excited to receive a hug from someone. They are truly grateful for someone sharing food with them. Friends, these precious souls have gone through more than most of us could even imagine, yet they still choose joy!!!!
Imagine with me, the opportunity to hug a little one for possibly the first time in their life, to brush a sweet girl’s hair for the first time ever, to have the privilege to provide a child with the only meal that they will receive that day. Friends, I have been given this opportunity- thee opportunity to love on the precious children of God, to teach them about Jesus, to make them feel cherished + loved for possibly the first time in their lives.
My heart yearns to hold a sweet child and help them to feel loved + adored. My heart yearns to feed many hungry bellies. The Lord has called me on this adventure, and so I am following; though I do not always know what my next step will be, I trust that the Lord will provide. I trust that the Lord will provide for me, for you, and for the countless other people around the world.
Please join me in praying for the nameless people around the world.
