Month 1 is already over and now on to month 2!
We were supposed to go to Ukraine this month but plans have changed. They have to keep us on our toes, this is the World Race after all! This month I'm in Sistarovat, Romania, a small village outside the city of Arad. We were overflowing with excitement to find that our team gets a 4-bedroom house complete with washer, dryer, kitchen, running water-and HOT water! What a surprise after none of that last month.
We're staying at 7th Spring Christian Camp and our main role is maintenance and housekeeping. So far they've done their best to keep "guys work" and "girls work" separated, even though I'd love to be outside working. Us girls have been doing jobs such as washing dishes, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning the kitchen, and cleaning up after meals. The guys have been mowing the lawn, trimming bushes, and outdoor work.
It's kind of a bummer that they have us doing that kind of work instead of interacting with the campers and helping with camp activities. Who wants to be washing dishes in a kitchen while we could be outside playing with the kids?! As I was thinking about that though, it occured to me that people might volunteer to help with a camp but it would never be to do maintenance work, it would be to help with the campers. As World Racers, we come in saying we're open to help with whatever the needs are. Whatever needs to be done, we'll do it. And at this camp their biggest need right now is to help clean the grounds and facilities. So we'll do it.
