Back in July when I was saying my good-byes, a question was asked of me, “Do you have room for some silly bands that you can give to kids you meet?”
The question was asked by 13-year old Sam Benson- the Bensons, good friends of mine, are a family who live out what they believe as they serve the Lord daily. Sam had a handful of them that he wanted to selflessly give to other kids like him around the world who don’t have fun things like this. His younger brothers and sisters chimed in, wanting to give theirs away as well. They all stuffed them into a ziploc for me to give to children that I meet.
Now, halfway around the world at Asha Mission, there are 33 kids who LOVE silly bands! I started handing them out and the excitement in the air mounted as I did. “A red one, I want a red one!”
“Can I have the cross?”
Is there an animal one?”
Exclamations such as these echoed around the room as the kids clamored to get their precious silly band. They were ecstatic that kids in America would send those to them!

Who knew that something as small as a silly band could make someone so excited?
Never underestimate the impact a small thing can have on somebody. It doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant to make a difference. The Benson kids realized this, knowing they have so many things in comparison to others around the world and that they could brighten a child’s day with something as small as a silly band.
Just remember that there’s small things each of us can do that can have a big impact on someone around us.
