There’s something I love about going up to spend time with the Lord.
In India, we lived in a five-story apartment building that had a rooftop area you could go up to.  From there, you could see a view of the city of New Delhi.  This was one of my favorite spots to spend time with the Lord.  Every morning I would wake up early and go up there to worship and pray.  I looked forward to this time everyday.

Now I’m in Thailand and living in the downtown area of Bangkok.  It’s a bustling, busy city, people everywhere, never ending noise, and a constant flow of traffic.  It’s hard to get away from it all.

On the top of our four-story building we live in is a rooftop area so you can guess where I go every morning!  It’s a sweet time just to sit in silence with the Lord or spend time worshipping Him.

There’s something special to me about being able to go up.  It doesn’t make me more spiritual when I sit up on a roof, but to me it’s just a place I can be alone with the Lord, finding more peace in Him in the midst of a busy life.

When I think about it, there are numerous times in the Bible, especially in the Psalms, that there is mention of looking up to the Lord and ascending His holy hill.

Psalm 24:3 “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place?”
Psalm 14: 1 “Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary?  Who may live on your holy hill?”
Psalm 121: 1-2 “I lift my eyes up to the hills.  Where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Every time I lift the Lord higher in my life, He brings me higher into Him, higher onto His holy hill.  He continues to show me more of Himself, His kingdom, and filling me with His Spirit.  Every time I go higher with the Lord, those are the times I soar.

Isaiah 40:31 “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Let me assure you of something.  You don’t need to go up to a rooftop to spend time with the Lord!  Just taking a few minutes of quiet to get away from the noise of life is refreshing and will lift the Lord higher in your life.  Because isn’t that what our life is all about anyways?

I have to tell this story and add the song with it. Enjoy smiley
This song, "Rooftops", by Jesus Culture, makes me think of our time during month 1 in Moldova.  This was one of two songs that our pastor played in his van over and over, blaring it as loud as it could go.  We'd shout it at the top of our lungs as we rode with him.
One night after a rough day some of us were outside and decided to worship.  He was there and turned his van speakers on with this song blasting.  He then climbed onto the roof of his van and started dancing while shouting out this song!  That night still stands as one of my favorite of the month.
