One thing that's been surprising to me is the amount of people in India. 1.2 billion in a land half the size of the U.S. where there's only about 3 million.  But those are just numbers until I actually see it.

See…
the people everywhere. the trash everywhere. the cars everywhere. the smog everywhere.

People sleeping on the sides of the road or in small shacks.  The air is so thick here, I feel like I'm suffocating sometimes, especially in the cities.  We were driving thru the "countryside" for about 3 hours and there was so many people even there.

Seeing their quality of life makes them look miserable. People going to the bathroom on the roadside, walking thru trash, the heat (and this is their fall-it's cool to them!), the elderly stumbling or hunched over as they try to walk, the exhausting manual labor that has to be done to simply survive.

It makes me feel helpless. Such a broken place. Everywhere we've been, even somewhat in Europe, has been like this. We hear all the time that the majority of the world lives like this. Being out in it all the time, traveling to so many places, seeing it everyday, I quickly realize that it's a reality.

We go to places that are broken so we can offer help but how can we possibly make a difference? It's true that the ones we meet we can offer them the love of Christ but they still have such a harsh life. It hurts to see people living like this.
