We have ventured into Nepal for our 7th month of the race. C.r.a.z.y. It is flying by! Quite literally…
Our leadership team is all about doing things that make sense. I love that. Because what’s the point of doing something without knowing the ‘why’ behind it? The leadership team not only has a ‘why’ behind things, but they inform us of it. This makes for crazy awesome opportunities. Such as hiking Mt. Everest base camp. YOU HEARD ME RIGHT! Our squad was presented with an opportunity to hike up to base camp on Mt. Everest while we are in Nepal.
From the start I was a definite HECK TO THE YES. Then I gave it more thought. I thought about what hiking entailed.
-12 days of hiking.
-Taking two weeks away from the planned ministry
-Cold weather gear to purchase. ALL OF IT
-Physical and mental journey
-Freezing my royal nay-nays off
-Eating lots of carbs (slightly a positive)
But here was the deciding factor…what an amazing opportunity to hike and do life with people who might not know Jesus AND with people who do know Jesus. What an amazing way to live out my faith.
It’s sustainable.
It’s real life.
It’s a glimpse into what transitioning into the United States will look like.
Living life as ministry and having fun while doing it. Whoever said Christians can’t do freaking awesome adventures!?
I am Rachael Thearin and pursue Jesus AND also do freaking awesome adventures as my ministry. Because I am living ministry as my life. Like hiking Everest Base camp.
A few people from the squad signed up to trek so there’s a total of six of us. We leave on February 4th and return on the 16th. I am beyond pumped for an opportunity to display my faith in an untraditional church setting. Let’s. Go. Jesus.
Here are some prayer requests for the trek!
-PERFECT health (altitude sickness is a real thing and foot blisters)
-Pursue investing in the people around me (locals, team, other trekkers, etc.)
-Pursing the Lord voice everyday through the sore muscles or cold weather
I especially love asking for prayer in such unexpected situations such as this one. God loves showing up in unique ways. I know he will show himself whenever, with whomever and in whatever way he wants to. I feel honored a small chunk of our squad is taking a leap and venturing into this adventure expectant to bring kingdom on that mountain.
Although Adventures did give us the green light to hike, the cost is not included in what we raised prior to the race. The cost (food, lodging, guide, porter, transportation) is an additional $1,080.
If you are interested in partnering with me on this trek, it would warm me from the top of my fleece lined North Face hat all the way down to my hiking boots (I need all the warmth I can get). Here are a couple ways:
