This is a story about a prophecy…a prophecy that rocked my world.
As many of you know, my family is in the resort business. Every year we open up our resort in the spring and close in the late fall. My father’s family mainly runs the resort and is responsible for the various tasks a day of hospitality has to offer. Opening our 22-cabin resort takes all hands-on deck and everyone working at an effective and efficient rate.
In the middle of opening our business, my mother fell off her boujee flip flops (I have warned her to pitch these platform flip flops) and hurt her ankle. She informed me she was on crutches and going to the doctor the next day to have x-rays taken.
That night after our church service the pastor and his wife were praying over me. Then they started prophesying over my life. It was such a powerful experience I didn’t know whether I was going to be lifted off the ground straight into heaven or fall over onto the ground and be slain in the spirit. My body felt weightless and I felt completely saturated in Holy Spirit. All I could do was say, “Thank you, Lord. Thank you.” As the pastor finished praying he was called away from our conversation, leaving his wife and I the only two left in the group.
She said, “Rachael, I don’t know your family and have never seen your mother’s face before but the Lord showed me her face and gave me something for her. She will go through a season where she feels discouraged and it might be trying, but she needs to keep running back to the Lord. He’s got her but she needs Him.” I was encouraged but was clueless as to the weight those words would carry.
The next morning I received a text from my mom saying her x rays came back and she broke her foot and would be on crutches and a knee wheelie for the next 6 weeks.
I could tell from the phrasing of her text that she was struggling. Physically and emotionally. Immediately I picked up the phone and called her to share the prophecy she received last night.
I was holding back my tears as I heard her anguish coming out through her tears. This broken foot was more than a physical thing. I don’t believe for one second my mom breaking her foot during opener with being short staffed was a “coincidence”. I’m not sure the ‘why’ behind it and I do not need to, all I know is that the Lord speaks. He speaks through to people on the other side of the world. He spoke this time to encourage.
The gift of prophesy is to edify the church (1 Cor 14:4). That church might look like your present building structure. It might look like your neighbors down the street or in this case it looked like a woman 8,734 miles away hurting and crying out to the Lord.
I love when people are obedient to the Lord. I love when there’s physical evidence of a prophecy that takes place. But mostly I love the Lord speaking to us and encouraging us along the way.
