Eating this slimy newt will prepare you for balut
Eating weird looking concoctions here (in the U.S.A) to prepare for delicacies over seas is NOT comparable. So I know that some of you tricksters are trying to convince me to eat freaky stuff but I AIN’T falling for it! I will be adventurous when I leave the U.S. but before then I will eat what my pallet tells me to
There is a 0% chance of getting lice
If you were to ask me what my biggest fear was before I applied to the World Race I would have replied with a common fear such as “spiders, snakes, or getting eaten by a shark.” My answer now revolves around lice, lice, and more lice. I was living in denial for sometime now but I am opening up about my BIGGEST fear. Since most places we will be visiting do not have an abundance of money, lice are a problem especially in orphanages and cannot be destroyed due to it being so costly. So after countless conversations with my roommate, an abundance of prayers, and an itchy head later (don’t worry I’m clear), I am slowly releasing this fear. If I can love up on an orphan for an hour and make him/her feel special for that time and forget about the situation that he/she is in, I am willing to sacrifice. Sacrifice is directly tied to faith and my Jesus died so we could live. So if that means I get lice, well I guess I’ll be running around with oil on my head for days. Oh! Also, you guys will get to hear all about it! Lucky you 😉
“When you’re in the field, that’s really when God will change you”
I get this comment almost on a daily and although this it is a very true statement, the journey has already begun! God is changing my heart and focus. He is changing my goals every day and stretching my faith and gifts to give Him glory. And He for sure is changing my mindset to focus on things, which are of Him and not of this world. So although yes, I know without a doubt He will change me when I step foot on my first plane to Central America, the changing started when I accepted the offer to participate on the World Race.
Gear will be cheap since you can only bring a backpack….MYTH!
Here’s why: do you have packing cubes laying around the house? Or maybe a solar powered charger? And have you ever even heard of an airporter?? Exactly! Most things on the trip, I do not have so you better believe I’m busting fabulous deals out left and right on this gear. In fact, I am oddly pleased when I read blogs and actually know what an item is! I am a country girl who loves the outdoors. I should know this stuff right?? Sorry family!
You can pack your mother in your backpack.
Although my mother is skinny, I can’t take her with me. Or anyone I have grown to love for that matter! This has been a hard pill for me to swallow. I talk to my mom and g-ma nearly every day so being away from the two powerhouses of my life for 11 months will be brutal. However, God has revealed to me that uncomfortability breeds growth. This is something I live by. All comfort is lost, yet He is not. My agendas are shot yet His are not. His plans are my plans and His way is the only way. Along the journey my team will become my family and the people I love and that is something I am looking forward to very much.
